Brenda,

I'm so sorry, that must have been so hard. :(

For women reading your comment, I'll offer the following. I always think it's a great idea to attend La Leche League meetings (click here to find a chapter need you) and/or to obtain the phone number of a local, highly recommended lactation consultant during your pregnancy. It can be so hard to be home alone with a crying, hungry baby knowing that breastfeeding will be painful and/or difficult. To have someone knowledgeable you can call - some lactation consultants will even come to your home - can be the difference between continuing or stopping breastfeeding.

I absolutely feared feedings because they were so stressful and difficult. I know that if I didn't have a support system in place, it would have been very hard, if not impossible to continue breastfeeding.

I'm so sorry things didn't work out differently for you!

Warmly,

Jen

Wish I read your blog with my two other babies. I had the same problem and gave up with both babies because my nipples would bleed. I should have kept trying but I just got to the point where I thought maybe my nipples were not made for breastfeeding.

Hi Ethel!

Here are some articles on flat/inverted nipples referenced by the ever brilliant staff at kellymom.com. The Ultimate Breastfeeding Book of Answers is another excellent resource in general and does talk about inverted nipples. I would recommend connecting with a La Leche League chapter in your area where you can obtain a lactation consultant referral who is knowledgeable on inverted nipples. It can take some extra dedication to successfully breastfeed, but it can be done!
