When is it? Saturday, October 17, 2009

Who should attend? Women who have experienced a traumatic birth experience, either cesarean or vaginal.

What is it? An interactive workshop to assist in emotional healing. Storytelling, artwork and a blessingway will highlight the event.

Where? Springdale, Arkansas (Directions will be provided to all attendees at time of registration)

The cost of getting your medical records

It’s always enlightening to get a copy of your medical records, specifically the records related to your child’s vaginal birth/cesarean section. Often, women who are told that they needed a cesarean because their baby was in distress, find that the medical records do not reflect that diagnosis. Moms frequently find that the “valid medical reason” they were given is absent from their medical record and in its place is “maternal request,” “elective,” or “consent upon consultation.” Where is the valid medical reason? Frequently, it’s not present in the record simply because it didn’t exist. As we have seen, doctors attempt to coerce women into repeat cesareans based on their schedules and instilling “big baby fear.”

Take the time to get and read your records. You may find that your “emergency” cesarean was no rush at all.

Vaginal Birth After Cesarean Section (VBAC) is currently banned in NW Arkansas hospitals.

We believe that women deserve the right to choose the birth that is right for them and their babies. We believe that NW Arkansas hospitals should do what is necessary to offer women VBAC.

Stop the ban. Bring back VBAC.

We need help in Arkansas! I am looking for women who could lend support for the women in Arkansas, a STATE where VBAC is almost completely banned. We are trying to fight the ban in our area. Please visit www.bringbackvbac.org to find out more about what we are doing and sign our online petition, tell your story on the blog and forum and visit the site often to drive up our hits numbers- the local hospital is checking the site too. Women in my state who have had a c-section face either having a repeat cs or going it alone at home (it is illegal for anyone to attend an HBAC mom) or traveling to another state where they can get a VBAC.
