An OB you like or who makes you comfortable isn’t enough

Many women do not interview OBs/midwives when selecting their VBAC care provider.  They either stay with the GYN who has been providing their well-woman care or the same OB who performed their cesarean because they like them.

Women they really believe that if they are good patients, if they are friendly, if they don’t [...]

So, met with the chief of staff, [...]

Lightning strikes, shark bites & uterine rupture

When someone understates the risk of UR, I think it’s just as important the clarify as it is when someone overstates the risk.  How else are women to make an informed decision?  Just as it’s plain wrong for an OB to tell a woman with one prior low transverse cesarean that she has a 20% [...]

Women gives birth vaginally in her car after three cesareans (VBA3C)

I love this!  I meet women all the time whose confidence in their bodies has been dashed by the “failure to progress” diagnosis they received in past labors.  This woman had three cesareans, all with that same diagnosis, because, as she says, she got to the hospital to early.  And look what happens when she [...]

Molly Ringwald births her twins vaginally

Last week, I shared the inspiring birth story of a mom who birthed her twins vaginally after two cesareans.  In that spirit, I share this story of Molly Ringwald who also birth her twins vaginally.

So many women are lead to believe that vaginal birth of twins is dangerous and it leads to many otherwise [...]

Open House for New S. Calif Birth Center

There is a new birth center in town run by Beach Cities Midwifery.

I am excited because we need more out-of-hospital options.  If more women hire midwives for their first pregnancy, there will be fewer primary cesareans.

They are having an Open House in Saturday July 11, 2009 from 10am to 4pm.

Activities include:
