What is the mission of VBAC Facts?

The mission of VBAC Facts is simple: to make hard-to-find, interesting, and pertinent information relative to post-cesarean birth options easily accessible to the people who seek it through VBACfacts.com, classes, and social media. VBAC Facts does not advocate for a specific mode of delivery, birth attendant or birth location. Learn more about this unique form of advocacy.

When was VBAC Facts created and why?

VBAC Facts was started in November 2007 after the Founder and Executive Director, Jennifer Kamel, had a VBAC. With her professional history as a commercial real estate Research Manager performing demographic and geographic analysis for international, national, and local companies, she was accustomed to compiling information, performing analysis, and presenting her findings in everyday terms. She directed her skill set to post-cesarean birth options after her cesarean in 2004 for single-footling breech presentation. After her VBAC, she looked at all the information she had acquired and knew that many other women were seeking that same information. VBACfacts.com was born. What are the statistics for the website and how is it marketed?

VBACfacts.com has enjoyed considerable growth over the past six months: pages views are up 54% and unique visitors are up 65%

VBACfacts.com receives about 30,000 page views and 16,000 visitors monthly reflecting an international audience of women who have had cesareans, doulas, childbirth educators, health care providers, public health professionals, and hospital administrators.

26.5% of people visit VBAC Facts via direct traffic, meaning they type vbacfacts.com into their web browser.  Another 28.6% is referral traffic, meaning they assess the site via links shared on social media sites such as Facebook, on-line message boards such as Baby Center and other websites and blogs.  The remaining 44.6% of visits come from search engines such as Google.

I’m particularly excited about the direct traffic stats because that represents a good sized growth from only 10.7% in the six months prior.  What this means is, more people are learning about VBAC Facts and are coming directly to the site rather that finding it via another website or search engine.

Facebook generates one-third of the page views on vbacfacts.com.  Jen Kamel’s Facebook profile has almost 2,000 friends. The VBACfacts Facebook fan page has over 4,400 likes. The VBAC Facts Community, a Facebook group created in June 2012, has almost 1,600 members including parents, birth advocates, medical providers, birth professionals, and attorneys.

The 6 hour class that Jen developed entitled “The Truth About VBAC: History, Politics, & Stats” has been taught throughout the United States, to an international audience via an on-line class (webinar), and also as a pre-conference session at the 2012 VBAC Summit.

What do people say about VBAC Facts?

“Thanks to you for the candles of knowledge that you are lighting all over the world. You offer REALISTIC and powerful information, and these are powerful contributions to womankind.” – BS

“Jen I have mad respect for you. I send the link to your site to all moms who show an interest in having a vbac. I like the non biased information, its straight forward and simply awesome how you break the information down for women.” – SJM

“I always refer people who are looking for VBAC info to your site. You have the most comprehensive, non-biased, research-based information out there!”  – A

” I really respect what you do. I’ve read things on your site that have ‘disappointed me’ because they weren’t the answer that I wanted to hear, but after reading your sources, I know they are *accurate* and that I can trust you give valid, sound info and resources. (also, I’ve read many things on your site that have delighted me as well!) so thanks for running a site that I feel I can actually trust and share with others .” – SG

“And THIS is exactly why I refer people to your (and KMom’s) sites. So appreciate the balanced approach. It’s so hard to find on both sides–I see exaggerations of risks bolstered with tragic stories and I see minimizing and downplaying of risks as well. Neither is truly helpful to a mother trying her best to make an evidence based decision. So again, thank you!” – MOS

“Jen, thank you so much for your commitment to facts and evidence based information. We get angry at the OBs who don’t give it… we should hold ourselves to the same standard.” – MBH

“Ya know Jen, I just have to thank you! I attended your VBAC seminar in 2010 (in Temecula) and that was the start to my journey of research. Your medical facts and research from the medical books/ journals…etc, was exactly what every VBAC mom needs to hear.” AM
